Nach dem vielbeachteten Debutalbum «Spotlight on John Williams» meldet sich das City Light Symphony Orchestra unter der Leitung von Kevin Griffiths mit einem ebenso spektakulären Nachfolgeprojekt zurück: «The Sound of Adventure». Die Doppel-CD präsentiert legendäre Filmthemen, die Abenteuerlust, Fernweh und emotionale Tiefe gleichermassen auf sich vereinen – eine Hommage an die grossen Klangwelten des Hollywood-Kinos während den vergangenen acht Dekaden.
Hier begegnen sich noble Ritter, willensstarke Prinzessinnen, durchtriebene Schurken und wagemutige Piratinnen vor traumhaften, verwunschenen oder furchteinflössenden Kulissen, die allesamt von unvergesslicher Filmmusik beseelt sind.
Das Album spannt dabei einen weiten Bogen – von “Golden Age”-Meisterwerken aus der Feder klassisch ausgebildeter Komponisten wie Erich Wolfgang Korngold und Miklós Rózsa bis hin zum Kino der Gegenwart mit Musik aus den «Star Wars»-Abenteuern «Solo» und «Rogue One».
Zahlreiche Komponisten schufen grossartige Abenteuer-Filmmusik, die mit ihrem melodiösen Zauber und orchestralen Selbstbewusstsein bis in die Gegenwart inspiriert. Die zumeist opulente Inszenierung der Abenteuerfilme bedurfte einer ebensolchen Filmmusik: Helden verlangen nach Fanfaren, exotische Schauplätze nach musikalischem Lokalkolorit und nicht selten entflammt ein romantisches Knistern zur grossen Liebe.
Die Musikerinnen und Musiker des City Light Symphony Orchestra, die London Voices sowie die Solisten Alexandre und David Castro-Balbi interpretieren unter der Leitung von Dirigent Kevin Griffiths zeitlose Filmmusik – leidenschaftlich, unerschrocken und mit viel Spielfreude und Abenteuerlust.
Am 5. Dezember 2025 erschien das Album schweizweit als 2-CD-Set bei Prospero Classical, gefolgt vom digital Release am 30. Januar 2026.

This is one of the easier reviews I’ve written in recent times. If you like selections of music from films, played well and programmed intelligently, then this is a no-brainer. [...] It is not just a selection of “lollipops”, but rather a well-chosen group of less common works, taken from adventure films, with genres including fantasy, sci-fi and historical. [...]
Their performances are gloriously opulent and cinematic. I was able to make a direct comparison with another recording of the two Ron Goodwin pieces, a Naxos (originally Marco Polo) album under the direction of the composer that I reviewed in 2022: the new recording trumps the older one quite comprehensively, having so much more vitality and grandeur. Nor do they suffer in comparison with John Williams conducting the Vienna Philharmonic in Adventures on Earth. The booklet notes provide a good historical perspective on the genre, rather than analysing the individual works. The sound is lush, as you would expect.

Again the orchestra is under the baton of Kevin Griffiths and again he elicits notably impressive performances. [...] If anything I think this album is even better than the orchestra’s previous one – the performance is first-rate, and conductor Griffiths brings a real energy to so many of the pieces. The whole thing has clearly been put together by people who genuinely love the repertoire, which is a boon to the rest of us who love it. The recordings were actually made back in 2021 and reports suggest an album of John Barry music is also already in the can – if it’s as good as the two albums we’ve now got then we’ll be in for another treat when that one sees the light of day. Bravo to all concerned, The Sound of Adventure will be a great pleasure for everyone who loves classic orchestral film music.
